Luxury carmaker BMW India has launched a special price protection scheme for customers buying the Mini 3-door Cooper S model manufactured at the UK’s Oxford plant in India. The offer has been made in view of the possible import duty cut under the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Vikram Pawah, President and CEO, BMW Group India, said that this limited period scheme is for customers who buy the Mini 3-door Cooper S for the next 180 days. If there is any reduction in the price during this period, the dealership will refund the difference between the invoiced price and the new ex-showroom price to the customers.

Objective of the scheme
Vikram Pawah said that there is uncertainty among customers since the announcement of the India-UK FTA. Many customers are calling and asking what effect this will have on the price of the Mini Cooper S, as this model is imported from the UK. To overcome this uncertainty, the company has launched this scheme, so that customers can buy now without any worry.
India-UK FTA and its impact
The free trade agreement between India and the United Kingdom was completed earlier this month. Under this, the duty on automotive imports will be reduced from 100% to 10%, although this exemption will be under certain quotas. The duty-free quota on electric vehicles (EVs) is limited to a few thousand units. The Mini 3-door Cooper S, which is a petrol engine car, is currently imported with 70% basic custom duty. Its ex-showroom price starts at Rs 44.9 lakh.
Mini Cooper S sales
The Mini range registered sales of 150 units in India in the first quarter of 2025, while a total of 709 units were sold in 2024. This model is known for its stylish design, premium features and strong performance.
Which model is not included in this scheme?
BMW Group India clarified that the all-electric Mini Countryman is not included in this price protection scheme. The model is manufactured at BMW Group Plant Leipzig in Germany and imported to India as a completely built unit (CBU). It is priced at Rs 54.9 lakh.
Benefits for customers
This scheme will help customers make a quick purchase decision. If the price of the Mini 3-Door Cooper S decreases in the next six months, customers will get the difference amount back, ensuring their savings. This move reflects BMW’s customer-centric policy.
