Although it does not directly compete with the more robust SUVs in the segment, the Skoda Kodiaq remains a strong contender due to its premium appeal and strategic pricing. The next-generation Kodiaq is set to launch in India on April 17. It will come with a new exterior design, more luxurious interior and several other significant improvements. It will be assembled in India and will be available in two variants. The new Kodiaq will feature Skoda’s signature design language, which will have crystalline elements and sharp lines. Premium materials will be used in the interior and it will get modern features like a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver display and connected car technology. 2. MG Magester:
The Magester will get the familiar 2.0-litre four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine from Gloster, which generates 213 bhp of power and 478 Nm of torque. It will be offered with an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard, while a 4WD (four-wheel drive) system will also be available as an option. This Gloster-based SUV was first shown to the Indian audience at the BMGE (Bharat Mobility Global Expo) 2025. The MG Magster will be positioned as a more upscale version of the Gloster and will be the new flagship in the brand’s Indian portfolio. It will be a refreshed and more feature-rich version of the Gloster and will be sold alongside the Gloster. The Magster is expected to get premium interiors, better features such as a panoramic sunroof, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and an improved infotainment system compared to the Gloster. 3. Isuzu MU-X Facelift:
The MU-X has already received a facelift globally, bringing new looks and updated features. While reports of its India launch have been gaining momentum, Isuzu is yet to confirm any concrete timelines or details. At the moment, the company is mum on whether this electrified diesel option or the updated MU-X will reach Indian showrooms. The facelifted MU-X introduced globally features a new front grille, new headlamp and taillamp designs, and updated bumpers. The interiors are also expected to get some cosmetic changes and new features. Isuzu is known for its robust and reliable SUVs, and the MU-X facelift is expected to retain the same features. If launched in India, it could give tough competition to the likes of Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster.
4. Toyota Fortuner Mild Hybrid:
Toyota is gradually introducing a 48-volt mild-hybrid setup for its 2.8-litre four-cylinder GD-series diesel engine in global markets. The system aims to increase fuel efficiency, reduce emissions and make driving smoother at low speeds. With the Fortuner continuing to dominate the full-size SUV segment in India, the introduction of this mild-hybrid technology locally is becoming increasingly likely.
