Maruti Suzuki e Vitara: Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch its first electric SUV e Vitara in global markets. This SUV will be produced at the Hansalpur (Gujarat) plant in India, from where it will be exported to more than 100 countries. Suzuki has shared initial details of the e Vitara for European markets. The special thing is that in some countries like the UK and the Netherlands, this electric vehicle will be sold with a 10-year warranty. Usually, Suzuki offers a warranty of 3 years / 100,000 km or 6 years / 150,000 km on its vehicles in Europe, but for the e Vitara this period has been increased to 10 years. The company says that this warranty reflects their confidence in the reliability and durable design of the vehicle. Although the maximum mileage information has not been revealed yet, it is estimated that it can be up to 200,000 km.

BYD’s ‘Blade’ battery: Reliability guaranteed

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara uses the Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Blade battery from BYD, which is known for its safety and longevity. This battery is not only safe, but its energy density and cost-effective design make it stand out from other batteries. In India, Mahindra also uses BYD’s Blade battery in its BE 6 and XEV 9e and offers a lifetime warranty to private buyers. Maruti Suzuki is yet to reveal the warranty for the e Vitara in India, but expect it to be longer than usual.

Three variants in Europe, two in India

The e Vitara will be available in three variants in European markets:

  • Standard Range FWD: 49 kWh battery, 106 kW (142 hp) motor, 193 Nm torque, 345 km range (WLTP).
  • Long Range FWD: 61 kWh battery, 128 kW (172 hp) motor, 193 Nm torque, 428 km range (WLTP).
  • Performance AWD: 61 kWh battery, 135 kW (181 hp) system power, 307 Nm torque, 412 km range (WLTP).

Only Standard Range FWD and Long Range FWD variants will be sold in India. The company claims that the Long Range variant will give a range of more than 500 km as per the MIDC P1+P2 (Urban + Extra Urban) test. This can make long distance travel easier for Indian customers.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara: Design and Features

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is built on the Heartect-E platform, which is specially designed for electric vehicles. This platform is light and strong, which enhances the performance and safety of the vehicle. In terms of design, the e Vitara is quite similar to the eVX concept that was showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo. It features modern features like LED headlamps, Y-shaped DRLs, 18-19 inch alloy wheels, and connected taillamps. The interior includes features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen, 10.1-inch digital driver display, ventilated seats, Level 2 ADAS, and 7 airbags.

Launch and production in India

According to reports, Maruti Suzuki will start production of the e Vitara at the Hansalpur plant from May 2025. Its launch in India is expected in March 2025, after which it will be available for sale through Nexa dealerships. The car will compete with vehicles like Tata Curve EV, Hyundai Creta EV, Mahindra BE 6, and MG ZS EV. The estimated price could be between Rs 17 lakh to Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).

Global strategy and exports

This is Maruti Suzuki’s first electric vehicle, which is part of Suzuki’s next 10-year technology strategy. 50% of its production from the Gujarat plant will be exported to Europe, Japan and other global markets. Its launch in Europe will be in June 2025. This car will also be sold as Toyota Urban Cruiser, which is part of Suzuki and Toyota’s collaboration.

Why is it special?

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is not only the beginning of Maruti Suzuki’s electric vehicle journey, but it can strengthen the company’s position in the Indian and global markets. BYD’s blade battery, long range, and modern features make it an attractive option. Apart from this, offers like 10 years warranty can increase customer confidence. As the demand for electric vehicles is increasing in India, the e Vitara can prove to be a game-changer in this segment.
