Actual Mileage: Our test results
We tested the XUV 3XO Petrol-AT in its most petrol-efficient “Zip” mode. We drove it in the city and on highways around Navi Mumbai. Here are the results:
- City Mileage: At an average speed of 18 kmph, the XUV 3XO returned a mileage of 9.89 kmpl. Its auto stop/start system saves petrol by shutting down the engine when stopped in traffic. The system works very well and keeps the engine off for longer periods, improving mileage.
- Highway mileage: At an average speed of 60 kmph, it returned a mileage of 13.01 kmpl. At 100 kmph, the engine runs at just 2,000 RPM in sixth gear, which helps save petrol on highways.
How did we test?
For our mileage tests, we fill the petrol tank to the brim and keep the tyre pressure as per the company’s recommendation. We drive the car on fixed city and highway routes in Navi Mumbai, where we maintain a fixed average speed. There is only one occupant in the car during the test. All other electrical equipment like AC, music system, indicators and wipers are used normally. Drivers are changed from time to time to minimize the impact of driving style. After each test, the tank is filled again and the mileage is calculated.
Features of XUV 3XO that help in improving mileage
- Auto Stop/Start System: The engine shuts down when stopped in traffic, saving petrol.
- Zip Drive Mode: This mode strikes the perfect balance between engine power and petrol consumption.
- Cruising at Low RPM: The low RPM (2,000) of the engine at 100 kmph on the highway improves mileage.
- 6-Speed Automatic Gearbox: This gearbox shifts gears smoothly and helps save petrol.
Verdict
The Mahindra XUV 3XO Petrol-AT is a powerful and comfortable SUV that delivers a mileage of 9.89 kmpl in the city and 13.01 kmpl on the highway. Though this is less than the ARAI-stated 18.2 kmpl, this mileage is considered good in the compact SUV segment in real life conditions. Features like Auto Stop/Start and Zip Mode make it even more economical.
