Price cut and variants
Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG is available in three variants:
- NG04 Drum: Its price is now Rs 85,976 (earlier Rs 90,976) – that is a reduction of Rs 5,000.
- NG04 Drum LED: Its price is Rs 95,981 – no change in this.
NG04 Disc LED: Priced at Rs 1,11,000 – unchanged.
This price cut brings the bike closer to the best-selling 125cc bike in India, the Honda Shine 125 (which starts at Rs 89,468). However, prices of the mid-spec and top-spec variants remain unchanged.
Reason for price cut
The exact reason for the price cut has not been revealed, but it is believed to be due to low sales. Only 993 units of the Freedom 125 were sold in April 2025, while 1,394 units were sold in March 2025. This number is very low in the 125cc commuter bike segment, where bikes like the Honda Shine and TVS Raider sell in the lakhs. Low number of CNG stations and less awareness about CNG bikes is also impacting sales. Nevertheless, Bajaj sold 40,206 vehicles from July 7, 2024 to January 10, 2025, with November 2024 (12,142 vehicles) and October 2024 (11,073 vehicles) being its best months.
Engine and Performance
The Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG is powered by a 124.58cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 9.5 PS of power and 9.7 Nm of torque. This engine can run on both CNG and petrol, and can be switched between them at the press of a button.
Special Features:
- CNG Tank: 2 kg tank, which can run up to 200 km (mileage 94-126 km/kg).
- Petrol tank: 2-litre tank, which can run up to 130 km (mileage 53.4-65 km/litre).
- Overall range: A combined range of 330 km on CNG and petrol.
- Top speed: 90.5 kmph on CNG and 93.4 kmph on petrol.
In CNG mode, this bike is up to 50% cheaper than petrol bikes, its running cost comes to about Rs 1 per km. It emits 26.7% less CO2, 85% less NMHC and 43% less NOx, making it good for the environment as well.

Design and features
The Bajaj Freedom 125 has a different design, which makes it different from other 125cc bikes. It is built on a special frame, in which the CNG tank is kept safe.
Its main features:
- Long seat: 785 mm, which is the longest in this segment.
- LED headlight: Available on mid and top variants.
- Digital display: It gets features like Bluetooth connectivity, call alert and mileage indicator.
- Suspension: Gets telescopic forks at the front and mono-linked shock at the rear.
- Braking: Top variants get disc brakes at the front, and all get a combined braking system.
Weight: 147.8 kg.
Colour options: It is available in seven dual-tone colours – Caribbean Blue, Cyber White, Racing Red, Ebony Black-Grey, Pewter Grey-Black, Pewter Grey-Yellow and Ebony Black-Red.
Safety and testing
Bajaj has put the Freedom 125 through 11 stringent safety tests, including collision and truck run over tests. The CNG tank has received certification from PESO (Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation). The special frame and additional shields keep the CNG tank safe, making it reliable for everyday use.
Market positioning and future
The Bajaj Freedom 125 has no direct competition, as it is the world’s first CNG bike. However, it competes with petrol bikes like the Honda Shine 125, TVS Raider 125 and Hero Splendor 125 in the 125cc segment. The company is taking advantage of the growing number of CNG stations in India (7,000 now, expected to be 17,000 by 2030). Bajaj has made it available in 350 cities and will soon start exports to countries like Egypt, Tanzania and Bangladesh.
Bajaj plans to increase production capacity to 30,000-40,000 vehicles per month by January 2025. The bike may also be showcased at the Auto Expo in 2025, where Bajaj will focus on CNG and flex-fuel bikes.
Conclusion
The Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG is an affordable and eco-friendly option for the middle class. The price cut makes it more attractive, but there is a need to increase the availability and awareness of CNG stations. This bike is perfect for those who travel long distances on a daily basis and want to reduce their fuel expenses.
